On Tuesday, June 15th, 2021, the Pelagos Agreement signed the Declaration “Ecosystem-based approaches for biodiversity protection and management”.

This approach considers the full interactions within an ecosystem rather than single issues and includes the human activities as part of the system.

The Declaration’s key points are the following:

  • recognize the value of, and the threats in, the Mediterranean;
  • engage the dialogue and the cooperation with all the stakeholders;
  • exchange good practices and experiences;
  • activate cooperation mechanisms for an effective biodiversity conservation;
  • the importance of transboundary actions.
