The Principality of Monaco is the depositary of the Agreement establishing the Sanctuary for Marine Mammals in Mediterranean Sea, signed in Rome the 25^th November 1999 and that has been made enforceable by the order n. 15258 of 18/02/2002.

Italy, in its Act of Ratification of the Agreement (L. 391 11/10/2001) has assigned the Presidency of the National Steering Committee of the Agreement to the Ministry of Environment and Protection of Land and Sea. This committee is composed of the following representatives:

Ministry of Environment and Protection of Land and Sea
Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Policy
Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport
Permanent Conference for relations between the State and Regions
Regions of Liguria, Tuscany and Sardinia
Environmental associations
Scientific experts

This Committee, appointed by the Decree 46/3/03 of the Ministry of Environment and Protection of Land and Sea has been provided with an own budget, repeated each year, for operating the Committee itself.

National activities

The Italian Agreement ratification Law n.391 11th October 2001 had provided a budget, repeated each year, for implementing National activities related to management, research and implementation actions of the Agreement.
